When we purchase a television, the size measurement refers to the diagonal length of the screen (i.e. the hypotenuse of a triangle). If we have a shelf that is 16 inches wide, and 12 inches from the shelf on top of it, how do we use radicals to determine the size television that will fit on the shelf (i.e. the diagonal length of the screen)?
