You are required to submit the following as a minimum on each Forum:

Here are five questions to think about and get your group discussion started. 

 

  1. What were some of the important big bands of the swing era besides Ellington, Basie, and Goodman?
  2. How did Lester Young’s style on tenor saxophone differ from that of Coleman Hawkins?
  3. How did swing-era piano style differ from the stride style of the 1920s? Did some pianists retain elements of stride? Who? How did they?
  4. Identify women’s contributions to jazz during the swing era.
  5. Further discussion: Who were some of the important vocalists of the swing era? How did their styles differ?
