Many teachers who have been in the classroom for a number of years, and even some who are new to the profession, subscribe to the “fly by the seat of your pants” model of curriculum development. They have little or no formal planning in place. Is it important to plan and design units in a formal process? How should an instructor design and plan units? Is it possible to align learning outcomes to instruction without a formal plan? How do teachers without a plan know that learning has taken place?
