LASA 1—Case Presentation Report 

In this assignment, you will write a case presentation report, using the format illustrated in the Case Presentation Worksheet provided, based on a fictional character you create. That character and the issues involved should be similar to the types of clients and issues you encountered while completing your field experience. There should be no actual clients identified in your presentation as that violates laws of confidentiality. Instead, you must create a character who best represents the population your site serves. 

Download the Case Presentation Worksheet and use the headings and format for your case presentation report. 

Include the following information:

Background Information and Presenting Problem 

Provide your character’s fictional background information, including the following: 

Age 

Gender 

Years of education 

Employment status 

Medical history—current and past medical conditions 

Family mental health history—any psychiatric diagnoses in relatives 

Family relationships—marital status, number/gender/age of children, etc. 

Quality of social relationships 

Substance use and abuse history 

Current and recent stressful life events 

Strengths and coping skills 

Any presenting problems—what are the reasons the character is seeking services at this time?

Behavioral Observations

First, describe the character’s presentation or appearance and general demeanor. What is the client wearing? Does the character seem to be clean and well groomed or unkempt? Does the character look older or younger than the stated age?

Next, describe in detail the character’s behavior that you have observed at your field experience site (you should base this on typical behaviors you have observed in clients served by your site). These observations should be consistent with the presenting problems you mentioned in the first section. Describe any interpersonal difficulties. Are there any bizarre or inappropriate behaviors? Is the character generally underactive or overactive, calm or agitated, passive or aggressive?

Summary and Impressions

Summarize your description of the character and the presenting problems. Next, you may try to provide a diagnosis, but it is sufficient to describe your general impressions of the character’s overall functioning and specific functioning (occupational functioning, social functioning, emotional functioning, and overall physical health).

Type of Treatment, Service, or Intervention Provided at Your Site Describe the type of treatment or intervention this character would receive at your field experience site. Provide as much detail as possible. For example, if individual therapy will be provided, what is the theoretical orientation of the therapist (cognitive-behavioral, psychoanalytic, humanistic, Gestalt, etc.)? If the site is a human services agency, what services do the clients receive? Describe how well the character responds to the intervention. Does the intervention help the character? In what way is it effective or ineffective?

Recommendations Based on Research

Cite at least two peer-reviewed, academic journal articles related to your character’s issues and/or your site’s services for that character. Include a review of the content in the articles and how that content relates to your character. Does the research support the interventions being provided by your site? Would you recommend a different approach based on the research? 

Issues of Ethics and Diversity

Field experience sites will require confidentiality for clients that are in accordance with state laws and professional associations’ ethical guidelines. Describe how your site protects your character’s confidentiality.

List at least one additional ethical issue (other than confidentiality) involved in your character’s receipt of services at your site. You may create an ethical dilemma you might have to face with your character, and then cite the specific ethics codes from both the APA Code of Conduct and Ethical Principles as well as the ACA Code of Ethics. Discuss how you should deal with the dilemma based on those codes.

List at least one issue related to diversity and your character. For example, is your character from a minority ethnic group, or are there gender issues related to your character’s issues and/or treatment? Create at least one diversity-related issue and specify how you should handle that issue when providing services to the character. Cite information from your required readings regarding diversity.

Personal Reflection

Explain any difficulties you think you may encounter as you work with someone similar to your character. What are your strengths and weaknesses related to working with the character’s personality, issues, or behavior? List at least two difficulties, two strengths, and two weaknesses. What steps do you think you can take to increase your ability to work effectively with the character or those in similar circumstances or with similar presentations? Identify one step you can take to overcome each weakness. 

Be sure to cite information from your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and module readings.

Write a 5–7-page report in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources and the formatting of your paper. Be sure to include a title page and reference page. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.doc.
