In order to create powerful and meaningful mission statements for learning organizations, we must first identify and evaluate organizational goals and intended/desired outcomes. Locate a mission statement for a school or educational organization using the four critical questions in our course text listed below:
- If we expect all students to learn, what do we expect them to learn?
- How will we know if they are learning?
- How will we ensure an engaging, relevant pedagogy?
- What will we do when they don’t learn?
Evaluate the mission statement. Is the mission statement designed to improve student achievement? Why, or why not? Does the mission statement stand up to the four critical questions? What suggestions would you offer the school or organization for improving, changing, or creating a mission that would inspire individuals within the organization to engage meaningfully in an initiative to bolster student achievement levels? Make sure to also post the mission statement within the discussion forum.
