Clugston (2014) writes that there is “a powerful curiosity about human relationships and how to cope in the world in which we find ourselves” (Section 1.1, para. 2). The text gives a number of general motivations for reading, but it is helpful to put those motivations into context. Consider what your motivations are for reading.

    Week 1 Discussion 2 is a tricky question, so go by my note here:

    Here is the question:  Why might a writer feel compelled to write about literature? 

    The writer in question here is YOU.   Why might YOU (a student writer) feel compelled to write ABOUT literature?  This is about what we are doing in this class. We are writing ABOUT literature, commenting and discussion literature that has already been written.  This has to do with being a critic and providing critiques ABOUT literature, which is what we're learning to do in this class!

     The question is NOT about the creation of stories, why writers write stories. This is not the same as saying "why might a creative artist or writer want to write a story?"   That's a different question.
