Journal
Assignment Instructions
This is a weekly journal that is turned in week 8 ON FRIDAY. A journal will capture your thoughts as you progress through the class. This assignment is easiest if you complete this weekly and not try to do it all the last week.
You will need two distinct topics each week. This can be a major topic or merely some fact that you encountered that you found especially interesting, didn’t know prior, or refreshed something that you have forgotten.
You will need a summary at the end. Tell me what you liked and didn't, what was interesting and what wasn't. Why?
You will write about 2 aspects on each topic.
(2) Something new you learned (fact or information) within that topic - and why it was important.
(3) Something that piqued your interest in this topic but you may have already known it- and why.
Important to remember:
- This information can come from our readings or from our forums.
- You will want to make sure your topics are distinct! Underline or numbering the topic is best.
- 150 word weekly is the depth I am looking for, split any way needed for the two topics.
- A 150 word summary is also required where you note what was liked, and not liked in the class.
Things not to do:
- You will not cover week 8. Week 1-7 only.
- A journal is not done to APA format, but attention should be paid to writing skills.
- A journal is NOT a summary or restatement of topics covered.
- You can use MS Word, or RTF format only. Do not submit in any other format.
Example-
The following is an example of two weeks of reflection journal entries. I underlined my topics and made sure that I discussed the 3 aspects outlined above. You do not need to label each part like I have done. This is also one example of suggested language. Use your own way to express your thoughts. It does not have APA. It should reads like a journal of your thoughts.
Week 1. In this week, __topic 1________ was significant to me. Although I knew it existed, I was (reason for choosing that topic.) I did not know that (new learning within topic). This really caught my eye because (reason why new learning was important to you). I also thought that (other information within this topic that piqued your interest) was interesting because (reason). The other topic that was interesting to me was _topic 2_______. This is very significant to me because (reason). I find it incredible to learn (new learning). It might be something small to other people but it was a new fact for me it reminded me of ( reason why new learning was significant to you). I had heard about (other information within the 2nd topic) but it was good to be reminded of it because (reason).
Week 2. This week I learned about Topic 1 ____. How could this happen in the United States? I realized I needed to learn more about this topic because (reason you chose this topic). The most startling fact to me about this topic was (new learning). (Explain why this fact/ learning was significant in this topic and to you). I remember my parents used to talk about this but I had no idea (information that was interesting within this topic and maybe you already knew it. Expand on the significance of your choice of this information.) The second topic I want to talk about is topic 2____. This has affected my life (reason you chose the topic).
