Choose any five of the essays in the section “Education” in our textbook (pp. 346-400). Write a summary of 200-250 words for each one. In the first sentence give the author’s name, title of the essay, and the major idea or argument. Present each of the major ideas in the essay in your own words. Be sure to provide markers like “Welty suggests that . . .” or “The author continues to relate . . .” that make it clear that you are explaining someone else’s ideas and not giving your own. Be objective, complete, and coherent in your summary. For this exercise you are not required to provide citations or a Works Cited page. Provide a word count for each summary.
After the summary of one paragraph, write another paragraph of 200-250 words (for each essay) by using one or more of the questions posed at the end of the essay as your prompts. Provide the question number but do not type the question itself. Provide a word count for each response.
