Read the second chapter of Actual Minds, Possible Worlds by Jerome Bruner. Post your 250-500 word response here. Consider the following prompts:

• Think about the two modes of thought Bruner outlines (logo-scientific/paradigmatic vs. narrative) and their purposes. What mode of thought might be more appropriate for this course, or for discussing music in general? Why might that be? 
• Bruner lists three parts of the "fabula": the characters, a plight, and consciousness of the plight by the characters. How might you use this as a lens to view your own meaning making in music? 
• What are the two "axes" of language, and how does each affect meaning-making in language? Could these be applied to music? If so, how? If not, why not?
• What does Bruner mean by "subjunctivizing" reality, and how does this concern meaning making? 
• How does a reader "re-write" a text? What does this have to do with meaning or imagination in music?
• What connections can you draw to some of the other writers we have read previously, and how does this inform or contradict their arguments?
