You are a crime scene investigator who has been dispatched to the scene of a homicide by police dispatch. Once you have arrived and do your initial crime scene walk-through, you find several evidentiary items that need to be recovered from the crime scene and taken to the lab for safe keeping and for possible lab work. Before you begin to process the crime scene, you realize that several steps must be completed, from photographing the scene and evidence, documentation of the evidence itself, tagging the evidence, and so forth. You also recognize that you will need to make a rough crime scene drawing (sketch) of the crime scene before leaving the scene.
For this assignment, you are to review one of the commercially available software programs for completing your final crime scene drawing. Discuss what you feel are the advantages and disadvantages of using software programs to develop your final sketch and if there are any legal constraints or challenges to utilizing this software to develop the final sketch from your initial rough sketch.
