2. Read the case study, “Foreign Investiment in Chinese Banking Sector: HR Challenges,” Case 9 – in the cases following Chapter 11 (PC4-1 to PC4-8). Write three pages on the following issues:

1. Factors attracting foreign investment in China,

2. The pros and cons of American firm investment in China; and

3. How you would manage an international strategic alliance with China.

3. Read the case study, “After the Breakup: The Troubled Alliance between Volkswagen and Suzuki,” Case 12 – in the cases following Chapter 11 in Integrated Cases (IC-13 to IC-23). It is the last case before the Glossary at the back of the book. Write three pages on the following issues:

a.   The underlying cause of the breakup;

b.   Cultural issues that affected the troubled alliance and the breakup; and

c.   The next steps for one of the partners – choose either Suzuki or Volkswagen to discuss.

4. Read the case study, “The Olympus Debacle,” on page 352-353. In two pages, discuss the differences between the leadership styles of the British and the Japanese and how Woodford and Kikukawa could have resolved the problems that Woodford uncovered.
