The Instructions or Manual paper should be instructions for a process or procedure or a chapter from a manual.
Be sure to think carefully about your audience and address what you see as their needs in the information you give. Carefully proofread what you write and make sure no steps are left out. It is also recommended that you read what you write to a friend, colleague, or family member and ask for feedback about its clarity.
Your role and task: You are a technical writer for a company or organization. This may be one you have actually worked for or work for now. Part of your job is to write instructions and manuals for new employees. This week your assignment includes:
Choose either:
Instructions - How to operate a piece of equipment or appliance, or instructions for a procedure you are familiar with . Be clear and concise. Give all the information your audience needs, but not more. These instructions may relate to what you actually do on your job. Your instructions should be about two pages in length.
(OR) A chapter from a manual (do not be intimidated by the word “chapter.” Your piece should be about two pages in length. Choose a subject you are familiar with, perhaps from the work you do.
(It is required to include references on a separate page along with citations within the text of the document. A cover page and abstract are not required.)
