Independent Group T-test
Calculate the independent groups t test or a one-way ANOVA specified in your documentation.
Summarize the results of the calculation in 1 or 2 sentences.
Submit the IBM® SPSS® output and your summary to your instructor
I have attached an Excel dataset to this post. The dataset is a small one - it has three variables - Gender (1 = Females and 0 = Males), Relationship Status (1 = Single, 2 = Married, and 3 = Divorced), and Life Satisfaction (this is a variable that ranges from 1 to 5, with higher values indicative of greater levels of life satisfaction). What I would like you to do is either (you don't have to do both) run an independent samples t-test or an ANOVA to see if there are statistically significant mean differences on the life satisfaction variable. Keep in mind, an independent samples t-test is used when you want to compare people in two different groups on some continuous variable. An ANOVA, on the other hand, is used when you want to compare people in three or more groups on some continuous variable.
So, if you want to know if males and females (the gender variable) differ from one another (in a statistically significant manner) on life satisfaction, you would run an independent samples t-test. If you want to compare single, married, and divorced individuals to one another on life satisfaction, because you have three groups, you would use the ANOVA analysis. After you have run the analysis, write up a summary of the results (in 1-2 sentences) and submit your summary, along with your SPSS output, using the Assignment Files link.
When you sit down to run these analyses, if you have any questions, either in running the analyses or in interpreting the output, please let me know by posting a question to the class forum (preferably the Week 4 Questions Thread).
