In both of his books, Kotter tends to focus the chapters on creating a guiding coalition or team to help strategize and implement needed change. He appears to advocate for identifying and appointing people to this team -- could there be any advantage to allowing people to self-select onto the team? What about choosing one or a few individuals and then letting them recruit people they have worked with before? What have you seen in your workplace?
