Imagine that you are asked to make a presentation to parents of young children to explain emergent literacy. The goal of the presentation is to help parents understand the learning needs of their child so that they can support the school learning with home practice. 

Prepare a presentation which includes information on:

• Early childhood literacy standards
• Phonemic Awareness
• Letter-Sound recognition
• Emergent writing
• Family involvement in literacy learning and why it is important
• Activities that support emerging literacy

Make the presentation informative and engaging. Include at least 5 sources.

Support your statements with evidence from the required studies and your research. Cite and reference your sources in APA style.

The entire presentation is for parents..so make it colorful and fun, yet professional and informative. Make it something you will be proud to use.

The phonemic awareness slide(s) should define phonemic awareness and let parents know WHY it is important to teach. Most points will be given for adding at least one piece of research that supports why we teach phonemic awareness (What the consequences are if it is not taught).

Phonics slide(s) should define phonics.

Emergent writing slide(s) should include the Developmental Stages of Writing with explanation or examples. This information is so helpful for parents.

The parent involvement slide should include at least one piece of research that tells the value of parents in helping their children with reading and writing.

The activities should, at some point, focus on reading and writing at home.
