Identify a positive race portrayal from contemporary film

In this short position paper, you will choose a character from a recent film that is played by a minority actor and that you feel demonstrates a neutral race portrayal. Please describe the role of the character in the film and provide support for your assertion that this character is an example of a neutral race portrayal. Please indicate if this is a mainstream or indy film and how that might make a difference to this portrayal.

Your mini-paper will be assessed based on the validity of your argument, your incorporation of terms and concepts that we discussed in class or that was discussed in the reading, and your ability to discern between a Mainstream and an Indy film, and that effect on this portrayal. I urge you to make sure that the character DOES NOT fall into one of the other archetypes that we have discussed (particularly the Angel or Utopian Reversal character!) If the character you choose could be identified as one of the archetypes, then that would void the validity of your argument. If you think the character is close to one of the archetypes, but defies classification as the archetype, then you should address that. The grade of your paper will also take into consideration the clarity of your argument (this includes organization of your ideas, grammar, spelling, etc).
