In the Middle Ages, the division between “rich” and “poor” was extreme in many European countries, and the poor had very little chance of receiving an education.  Discuss the role that education plays in societies, then and now. What are the potential outcomes when people do not have the tools or access to learn about the world around them?  How can education and the pursuit of knowledge promote equity, freedom, and understanding in our world today?
