We have looked at a number of "remixed" texts, from Photoshopped images to mash-up music. Each has shown that taking a familiar object and recreating it can improve, destroy, alter or invert the message of the original piece. 

What You Will Be Doing:

For this assignment, you will be analyzing a remixed item of your choice (which I must first approve). Be sure you put some thought into your choice and that it contains enough substance that you will be able to write about it at length. 

Argue how the remixed product has been changed for the better or the worse from the original piece. You may consider how social context and artist background could be important in understanding both the original and remixed pieces. This is an argument paper so you will want to prove something. You might argue that a remixed item effectively/ineffectively adapts to a new audience or genre OR that it effectively/ineffectively conveys a message or theme in comparison to the original text. Things you may want to consider for analysis include Tone, Genre, Audience, Message, Historical Context, and Artist Background.

What I Will Be Grading On

• Your ability to present a logical and defensible analysis that is both convincing and interesting.
• Your ability to integrate supportive sources into your analysis. You will want to find two (2) reliable sources to support your argument. 
• Your ability to dissect an artifact and demonstrate the relevance of your findings. No random or unsupported generalizations about your text. 
• Your ability to produce a clear, interesting, and organized introduction with a purposeful thesis. 
• Your ability to maintain the organization established in the introduction throughout the paper. 
• Your ability to apply concepts from previous assignments (such as quotation analysis, in-text citation, critical reading, etc)
• Your ability to cite sources correctly, both in-text and on a Works Cited page. 
• The paper must be 4-6 pages, using the format specified in the syllabus. The Works Cited page does not count toward the page number requirement.

Paper Requirements

• Your argument must be at least four full pages (15 point penalty for each page short).
• First draft is due 11/15 at the beginning of class. Bring two copies to class. Submit draft to Dropbox under Remix Rough Draft
• Final draft is due 12/01. Submit to Dropbox under Remix Paper Final Draft.
