Page 1 should summarize the assigned readings, and page2 should contain your own reflections/raising of questions/critical thinking on the text and how it relates to your thinking/experience. The summaries should use textual evidence (2-3 well chosen, very short quotes, properly cited, to support your interpretation of the text). In addition to gaining insight into your own relationship to a multicultural world, if you do the assignment thoughtfully, these reflections should help you to focus your thoughts for the final essay.

A note about summarizing: Even if your reflection portion of the assignment focuses on a particular issue or aspect of the readings, your summary portion must demonstrate that you have completed the entire assignment. Summarizing is a skill—don’t get bogged down in the details. Think of it as an executive summary--pulling the big ideas out of a vast number of pages is a skill nearly all professional people need.
