History vs Current Events

Since this is really more of a current event than a historical event, can we really write unbiased and objective historical research about it? Will our interpretations of it always be clouded by our personal feelings on the subject? Can we ever write the history of events that we ourselves have lived through? Would your thoughts really be a primary source rather than a secondary source or does it depend on how you write them?
