The 1950s

There are really two views of the 1950s: One considers it a time of growing affluence, and an era of high tide for American society; however, others consider the decade to be filled with contradictions and ill treatment of certain groups. Discuss these opposing views. Were the 1950s years of prosperity for America? Did the era contain contradictions that could not be contained? How did the decade result in change for America?
