Discussion:      How was ancien regime French society structured? Why does Sieyès denounce the first and second estates? What is the ultimate goal of this pamphlet – i.e., what doesSieyès want to achieve? Why is this pamphlet so revolutionary? (perhaps think about the meaning of the term “revolution”).  Discussion of De Gouges, The Declaration, and Robespierre documents:     Compare the ‘moderate’ (1789-92) and ‘radical’ (1792-94) phases of the Revolution.  Who were the main beneficiaries of the moderate phase?  To whom did the “rights of man” belong?  Who was excluded?  Did Robespierre successfully justify the violence and bloodshed of the radical phase?  Did the Terror save or violate the Revolution’s ideals?
