This assignment is worth 5% of your grade. You can either score 5 or 0. In order for you to get the credit, you will have to provide a critique of two of the films screened during the Latin American Film Festival at CSUN. The Festival will take place on November 14-16. Information about times and locations for screenings will be released soon.

Critiques should be three pages long and should include the historical context in which the film takes place, a synopsis of the film, and your response/reaction to it. Please avoid expressions such as “I loved it,” “Awesome film,” etc. Your response should be a critical analysis of the film with a focus not on its aesthetics but on the way it delivers the content. You should examine the film as a primary source -that is you should “read it” as a primary source and think of it as a window into the society/people it depicts.

Critiques should be well written, following standard rules of grammar and composition, and developing consistent, cohesive ideas over several paragraphs. Your grade will be determined by the clarity and correctness of your writing as well as the ideas you present. Your film critiques are due anytime before noon on final’s day (December 12) on moodle through turnitin. I will not accept hard copies or emailed assignments. No late assignments will be accepted.
