In this module you are exploring the various principles and beliefs that comprised the Greeks’ value system. For example, they had a very different concept of how the divine and the human interacted than we do today. Consider how Homer portrays the relationship between the gods and goddesses and the men in The Odyssey and the roles the gods play in human life. Consider how these same themes are echoed in other works. Think about what these representations tell us about Greek society. For your initial post, select one of the following sources:

• Excerpt from Hesiod’s Theogny
• Excerpt from Thucydides’s On The Early History of the Hellenes

Briefly summarize the source and discuss a principle or belief that contributed to the Greeks’ value system specific to this source. In responding to your classmates’ posts, discuss how the example either unified various Greek societies or contributed in shaping other societies.
