Histories and Theories of Rhetoric 2 Essay Questions

This needs to be emailed back to me by 8:00 am Tuesday Morning! Double Spaced size 12 font, times new Roman. NEEDS TO BE at least 6-7 pages. Please use a works cited page as well. 

Please answer both questions (50 pts each). Answers should be typed, double-spaced. 

1.     Rhetorical scholars often divide Enlightenment rhetoricians into different categories, including those who have a psychological focus, such as George Campbell, and those who take the belletristic approach, such as Hugh Blair and Thomas Sheridan.  What are the similarities and differences of these two approaches to rhetoric?

2. Since the time of the sophists, rhetoricians have stressed the usefulness of rhetoric to the life of citizens. Identify what you see as the three most useful concepts from the history of rhetoric to the lives of citizens in the 21st century American polis. Be sure to explain where the concepts are articulated (i.e. by whom, in what text) and why you think they are useful today.
