How did the overarching goal of making a profit play a role in Southern development?

Did that goal divide or unite settlers (or both)? If so, why? (As you consider your answer keep in mind that what we're discussing here deals with the early colonial period during the 1600's, NOT the period of time right before the Civil War in the mid 1800's.)


Your initial response to the DQ should contain some examples or details that demonstrate that you have read and understood the relevant portions of the textbook. In my opinion a good initial response shouldn't be too brief, but rather about the same length as a standard check point assignment, or somewhere over 150 words. Follow up responses can be shorter, but should do more than simply agree or disagree. Excessively short or off-topic responses will not be counted as substantive and therefore won't count toward the participation score
