America’s Entry into World War II: War or Peace?" Please respond to the following in two posts, substantive primary post and response to another student.

BACKGROUND: Recent terrorism has brought the greatest violence to Europe since WWII.  Americans were absolutely opposed to fighting WWII: In 1939, 88% of Americans opposed war, even if it meant giving Hitler all of Europe.  

QUESTION:  In light of recent terrorism in Europe and the U.S., how do we know when/if supporting peace is better than going to war?
