The critical part of a graduate education is the ability to apply the theory discussed in class to a particular problem. The final paper will give you the opportunity to do that. Here are the particulars regarding your final paper.

  1. The paper needs to address a current economic topic, which needs to be approved by your instructor by the end of Week 1.
  2. This paper is worth 200 points, or 20% of your final grade.
  3. The final paper needs to be at least 10 - 12 pages in length, exclusive of title page, abstract, exhibits, tables, and references.
  4. As with all written assignments, this Paper needs to be in APA format, which means (and this is not an exclusive list) your paper needs to have
    1. A title page
    2. Running head
    3. Abstract
    4. Easily identifiable thesis statement and conclusion
    5. Double-space, correct margins and tabulation, and headings
    6. A dedicated Reference Page, with correctly formatted references
    7. Proper style and tone for a graduate level course
    8. Proper use of APA 6th standards
  5. You will be well served to carefully read the rubric prior to beginning this paper. Please note the breakdown for points in this assignment are as follows:
    1. Thesis and Conclusion (10%)
    2. Analysis and Development (30%)
    3. Support (20%)
    4. Development and Organization (10%)
    5. APA Usage and Voice (10%)
    6. Writing, Grammar, and Usage (20%)
  6. The paper is due Week 6, Day 7
  7. This paper is a major assignment (as discussed Syllabus I), and must be completed successfully to pass this course.
  8. You needn’t (and likely will not) limit your topic to those listed below. These are just some ideas to get you thinking about your paper. Professors always like to see new areas and ideas in reading these, and you should be writing about something you find interesting. Please note that your topic needs to be much more specific than those listed below (some of these topics would take books and books to adequately deal with the issues).
