In your opinion what personal characteristics are employers looking for in individuals whom they consider for long-term employment and probable advancement in the organization? To what extent can one develop these characteristics?

The 86 % of employer are looking for someone that have a lot of personality more than educational skill because with personality are capable to resolve problem, another good point is the feel that employer has with the candidate, they know that going to be long hours together and have to fluid a cordial communication, also look the professional aspect Employers are looking for employees who will be strictly professional in their dealings with colleagues and clients. They want employees who will represent the company well and know how to interact in a business environment. How can an employer tell if you are professional, the way you dress, speak, and carry yourself all speak to your professionalism or lack thereof. Before going into an interview, it will benefit you greatly to study the corporate culture of the organization and to dress accordingly. Enter the interview ready to shake hands and answer questions in a professional, well-thought-out manner. Avoid texting or using electronics while you wait for your interview, though bringing your tablet can signal to an employer that you are tech-savvy. Also the loyalty and confidentiality are very important to achieve a great relationship between employee and employer.

Response #1

I think that are several personal characteristics that companies look for when trying to hire an employee long term. I think the most important thing is someone that can do the basics. The basics is the most important part of the job. Once they do the basics, companies like their employees to have the drive to go above and beyond what is needed. Also. A worker that is proactive is a great asset for a company to have too. When someone does something without being told, it gives the company one less thing to worry about, and the company can use that time towards other projects. People can develop these characteristics by watching other coworkers that are successful and asking those questions. Also, if an employee wants to be real successful, they should also ask their manager what things they could do better and make an effort to improve on them things. WC152

According to what I have been reading throughout the chapters, and the research I have done to acquire more knowledge, hiring employees is a very difficult and crucial process to the success of the business. This process involves planning and considering the position being posted prior to an interview, prior to the recruiting and hiring process can take place (Snell & Bohlander, 2013).  Before advertising a position, interviewing, and making a selection, the employer must first consider a few important key aspects of the position that is open, and the respective person that could be selected as the future candidate for the position.

In my opinion employers are looking for candidates that will fit certain qualities in order for them to see them as long term, I also think that organizations are not looking in particular for long term employees since technology, businesses, and much more keeps on advancing it’s only natural that people want to continue to move into other organizations that will provide them with different cultures and experiences. Employers are looking to hire individuals for long term goals for periods that are usually longer than 2 years, these individuals should have the education, skills, personality, organizational skills, leadership skills, and interpersonal skills in order for them to succeed and help the company become more successful; at the same time employers want these individuals to have the drive to move up in the company, and to be leaders rather than anybody’s boss (Snell & Bohlander, 2013).  Employers are also looking for those individuals that know a little bit about everything, individuals that are willing to go above and beyond and that they are also willing to understand and accept when they have made a mistake in order to learn and grow from those mistakes.
