Reflections on Health Equity.We know that health status varies, in many cases quite dramatically, between socioeconomic populations. But why? Watch the video (California Newsreel, 2008) for an example of how low birth weight affects different populations and some thoughts on why these differences might exist.

Now it is your turn to consider what is causing health disparities for a health issue. Review the health disparities section of Healthy People 2020. Then,

• Select a health topic of interest from the list of Healthy People 2020 topics and objectives (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2014b) and review the information about how this health concern affects different populations.
• Discuss the notable health disparities for this health concern between one or more populations
• Discuss what you think are the reasons for the differences and some of the underlying factors that are causing rates of the health concern to be higher/lower in different populations
