- PLAN your paper – 2.5 to 3 pages approximately 7 – 10 paragraphs. Plans may be a formal outline or a more general listing of the parts. But each paragraph must have at least ONE specific reference to the play – a scene, line, action by one of the characters. Quotes from the articles should be clearly integrated into the paper and should be correctly documented in MLA format.
The Paper
- Introduction with thesis sentence
- Body paragraphs (5-8 paragraphs).
- Each paragraph should include a reference to some part of the play – a line, a scene, an action that is connected to your theme.
- Put the Act/scene/line number in parenthesis if you paraphrase or if you quote the lines.
- Also, most paragraphs will include a quote or paraphrase from one of your articles.
- Cover the play chronologically. Start in Act 1 and go through Act 5 in relation to your particular theme.
- Conclusion – so what? Why do we care? What does it tell us about the play? About life? About the human condition?
- Type up your paper – double space with page numbers/last name, heading, and title.
- Use Easy Bib to make a Works Cited page that should include Hamlet andat least TWO different scholarly articles
