1. Discuss the wording of the second amendment of the Constitution. What do you feel is the intention of the authors? Is the right to bear arms strictly related to the need for a well-regulated militia, or are there two issues at play in the sentence? 2. Why do you feel that the homicide rate in the United States is so much higher than any other country in the world? Do you feel that there is a direct correlation between the presence of guns in American society (both illegal and legal) and the number of homicides? 3. Charleton Heston, former president of the NRA, has stated that if more Americans were armed there would be less crime in the country. He said, for example, that if faculty members and support staff had been armed at Columbine High School in Colorado, the killers may have been stopped before their tragic rampage. Wayne LaPierre, current NRA President, has said the same thing about the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting. Do you agree with the statements made by Heston and LaPierre?
