Application: Governance Structure
All nonprofit organizations have a board of directors that governs the organization. In addition to the governance structure, that is, what constitutes the totality of the organization's governance, many organizations also have advisory committees or other standing committees (personnel, nominating, fundraising, etc.) to help them to achieve their mission. The board of directors, nongoverning volunteers, and standing and advisory committees need to have a clear and comprehensive understanding of their roles and the responsibilities that accompany them. Having this understanding contributes to an organization's likelihood of fulfilling its mission among other things.
