1. Compare and contrast the topography of the northern and the southern halves of the map.  (8 points)

 

2. What might explain the topographic differences between the northern and southern halves of the map?  (Be sure to read the description above.)  (10 points)

 

3. What are all the hachured depressions called?  (7 points)

 

4. Why are there no surface streams in the southern area?  (7 points)

 

5. In what stage of karst development is the southern area?  (7 points)

 

6. Study the area in the section where you find the E in “CAVE”, just above the center of the map.  Note that there are two sewage disposal ponds there.  What environmental groundwater problems might these ponds pose?  Explain.  (11 points)

7. Draw contour lines (CI 5 feet) on the water table, using lake elevations as points of reference.  (12 points)

11. Compare the lakes on the topographic map to the same lakes in the photo (Figure  9.4).  Note changes in their shapes.  What changes in the water table does this reflect?  (12 points)
