Here is what is expected for the GIS project:

Original Map Project Paper 
(Minimum 2 pages/Maximum 3 pages)
12 point Times New Roman font single spaced (double space between paragraphs) 1" standard margins:

1.  Description of your project and why you decided to make this map.   Introduction paragraph. 
2.  How does the map address the issue identified in #1 above? How could this map help?  Who should view this map? Map Description paragraph.
3.  List the resources used to create the map:
  • Data Source Location
  • Date of Source Data Collection (When was the data compiled?)
  • Table Names (US Census?  ACS?  Other?)
  • Is the data source public or private?
  • Type of map layers:  Polygon, Polyline, Point, Raster....etc
  • How was the tabular data manipulated before being imported to GIS?  MS Access, MS Excel, Other Database?
  • Provide the metadata for all tabular data source columns.
  • Other important information as needed

4. Analysis of map results (paragraph) and conclusion (paragraph) What else could be done as a result of this map?

MAP OPTIONS (Choose one option):

A.  Produce the map in ArcGIS Online and save it under your online profile at Esri.com.  Send me the web/internet link to the online map and turn the paper in at class or by email attachment as a Word Document.

B.  Print a hard copy of the map on either 8.5"X11" paper or 11"X17" paper in full color and hand in to me with the paper.  (ALSO: submit this option by email as a PDF file) 

ALL MAPS MUST INCLUDE:

  1. One or more US Census Choropleth map layers at the block group.
  2. One or more point layers and/or one or more polyline layers
  3. Example of other layers: States, County Boundary, water, parcels, Streets...etc
  4. Descriptive Elements of the map (ArcGIS Online already includes many of these, if you use it):
  • Title
  • Legend
  • North Arrow
  • Scale Bar
  • Scale Text
  • Disclaimer
  • Appropriate Labels and/or Text Boxes to describe the map
