Full Body Scanners
Controversy continues over the new homeland security measure to improve aviation security after the attacks on September 11, 2001 and the Christmas 2009 bombing attempt over Detroit. A key technology developed for the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration is the implementation of full body scanners, which allow for screeners to see any devices that passengers might smuggle on their person. Such a technology would have discovered the underwear bomb on Christmas Day 2009. However, privacy advocates claim the scanners go too far unnecessarily intruding on passengers’ privacy.
Identify one pro and one con for using full body scanners. Should the T.S.A. continue to use full body scanners?
