Free Speech, Media and Culture Presentation

Research a recent controversial issue in the media that challenged society's tolerance of free speech (First Amendment).

Create an 8- to 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation, or use another multimedia tool, in which you explain and discuss the following:

  • What is the issue and why did it cause controversy?
  • What was done to resolve the controversy?
  • If a legal case, what were the grounds for the verdict?
  • Consider protections and limitations of free speech
  • Do you agree with the outcome, or would you have liked to see a more stringent or more lenient resolution? Why?
  • As you end this course, what are your thoughts regarding how media affects culture, and how cultural values are reflected in the media? How has this course changed the way you think about media? How will developing or improving your media literacy operate in your life?

Include detailed speaker notes and images that support your content. Each slide should have three to four bullets of text which are a high-level overview of what is included in your speaker notes. You may write the speaker notes in the notes section of your selected presentation tool or in a separate Word document.

Cite your references on the last slide.

Format your presentation according to appropriate course-level APA guidelines.
