Christine Rosen, author of “The Image Culture,” predicts a dreary future for America when she expresses her concerns about the modern fixation on the image and the long-term dangers of visual overexposure. So far, we have read several other authors who analyze the image’s impact on current discussions such as the politics of war imagery, gender representation in the media, and the psychology of the Instagram obsessed American public as a whole. In a four page essay, evaluate how Rosen and one other author (from the list below) support, refute or complicate one another’s arguments about visual culture.

Texts (Choose One)

“The War Photo that Nobody Wanted to Publish” by Torie Rose DeGhett

“Scenes from The Exhibitionists” by Kay S. Hymowitz

Kate Murphy’s "What Selfie Sticks Really Tell Us About Ourselves”

“Our Bodies, Our Selfies: The Feminist Photo Revolution” by Jessica Bennet

One of the most important things to remember is that your argument must address all parts of the prompt question throughout the body of your essay. Support each of your assertions with relevant evidence from both texts. Keep in mind that you should propose a thesis, frame your essay with topic sentences, and offer analysis and textual support.
