fix and editing the paper
Assignment included proper number of sources, citations and bibliography
The Research Paper
The research paper is worth 200 points. It will need to be 8-10 (10-15 for Honors) pages long, not including bibliography, title pages and/or endnote pages. Eight sources are required. The textbook and encyclopedias do not count toward the eight required sources. The topic is the same topic you used for your topic assignment and your Annotated bibliography assignment.. This is not just a report or an encyclopedia type of article—you must evaluate and analyze—why is this subject important? What did this person accomplish? What were the consequences of this event? Don’t assume these things are obvious—always be spelling them out for your reader as your write.
It will be important to cite your research properly. At least eight sources are required. A bibliography will be required, listing the author, complete title, publisher, place of publishing and the year for each of your sources. Online sources will require the website, and the links. Source material should include books, journal articles, historical or social science websites. DO NOT USE EXCLUSIVELY INTERNET SOURCE MATERIAL. Also, you may use encyclopedias as background materials, but they do not count toward your eight required sources.
You will also need to cite specific passages in your text. If you cannot find a particular fact in at least three sources, it will need to be cited. All interpretive and analytical passages which are not your own will also have to be cited.
A citation requires author’s name, title of the work and page number. You can do this in the form of footnotes, endnotes or in the main text in parentheses.
If you cite improperly, it will cost you points. If you do not cite at all your paper will not be accepted. These rules are in place to protect us from plagiarism, which is a serious academic offense.
Citation example (Footnote, Endnote or Parenthetical):
(Spielvogel, pp. 276-278)
If you use two different sources by the same author, you will need to include the title.
Bibliography example:
book
Spielvogel, Jackson J. Western Civilization, vol. II: Since 1500, (fifth ed.)
Wadsworth/Thompson Learning, Belmont, CA 2003
Article
Gore, Rick, “Who were the Phoenicians?” National Geographic, October, 2004, vol. 206,
no. 4, pp. 26-49
Website
www.nationalgeographic.com/magazine (November 10, 2004)
Encyclopedias: don’t use them as one of your eight sources. They are a good place to start your research, but they should never be the central source. They may provide information, but they do not provide much analysis, and analysis is what is needed in a research paper.
