For the first time in 108 years, Blue Bell Creameries recalled product for safety reasons. These were 3 oz. institutional food service ice cream cups recalled in March, 2015 because they had the potential of contamination with one of the rare strains of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.  Some media reported that 3 people died and 2 others became sick in Kansas Hospitals after eating Listeria-contaminated 3 oz. ice cream cups made by Blue Bell.  FDA regularly inspects all food plants.  Blue Bell is known for its super clean plants.

NOTE: Listeria is the name of a bacteria found in soil and water and some animals, including poultry and cattle. It can be present in raw milk and foods made from raw milk. It can also live in food processing plants.  Listeriais unlike many other germs because it can grow even in the cold temperature of the refrigerator. Listeria is killed by cooking and pasteurization.
