As educators, how do we keep the learning environment relevant in an ever changing world?

  For my final assignment I will be doing my paper on the current level of violent acts committed in schools and efforts to stop them.  The question in which will be the driving force behind my paper is what are school systems doing to prevent these acts from happening?  Schools are rehearsing acts like this, but how are teachers reacting to these acts?  As a teacher what can we do to stop them from even happening with the students?  we need to get more involved and remember we are there not only to teach, but be a positive figure in their lives.   I look forward to insight from others, and please feel free to comment as necessary.
