For this assignment, choose one Genre to focus on. . What are the identifiable elements in this genre, and how do you see them played out in a particular film example? Define the elements and note their importance for viewers. (Who wants to see a romantic comedy, for example, where the love interest is murdered?) Why do we like these genre categories? What are we really looking for when we choose a genre film? Are there well known actors (hint: “movie stars”) who choose the same genre roles over and over, and if so, why? (You may want to check out imdb.com under an actor’s filmography for ideas.) There are also a variety of website with movie previews (moviephone, etc.) that might help you see trends in types of shots and story telling. Use examples from the film you viewed to support your thesis.
