Primary Preventative Program: Let’s talk about money.

Mission: The mission of “Let’s talk about money” is to help couples build up the confidence to be collaborative and discuss the importance of discussing finance between them.  To encourage couples to set financial goals.

Vision: Out of these discussions, couples should be able to identify several large financial goals that can help them accomplish those dreams, such as paying off debt, saving up for tuition for a master’s degree or buying a new home.

Intended Audience: The targeted audience that would benefit from this program are couples who are considering marriage. As I learned from Young Money, “These days, marriage is hard work. Many marriages fail within the first few years, for reasons more serious than a toilet seat left up or a forgotten anniversary. Money tops the list as one of the leading causes of divorce in America. In 2007 alone, there were an estimated 7.6 marriages for every 1,000 people, and 3.6 divorces.  With figures like these, preparing yourself to answer the money question could be the best investment you make in your future marriage, even more important than whether to pay for an open bar at your wedding reception.” (http://finance.youngmoney.com)

Activates that we would do to help couples succeed is Let’s talk about money kits. Financial Workshop Kits helps save time in developing presentations by providing quality, noncommercial, free, and customizable raw materials to reach our audiences. The workshop kits available to them and will add more specificity and relevance to the populations we serve. A few activities that would include in the Lets talk about money kit are aging and retirement, general financial education, and special situations.

Goals for “Let’s talk about Money” programs are:

  • Build Confidence in couples to feel comfortable to talk about money.
  • The ability to maintain money
  • How to successfully save money for the future

I created this program because in my field of work I see a lot of couples who didn’t discuss finances prior to marriage which resulted in failure. For example, my husband and I thought it would be a good idea to discussion when we notice our relationship when going down the marriage path. In the long run we notice that simple discussion had a positive effect on our marriage we both agreed that I would be the account for our marriage which is working out perfect.

Secondary program “Let’s talk about how we got to this point of debt”

Mission: The mission of “Let’s talk about how we got to this point of debt” is to help couples rebuild their financial trust between and, to redirect them in the right path of successful finance.

Vision: Out of these discussions, couples should be able to identify what went wrong and come up with ways that they both would agree to redirect the finances positively.

Intended Audience: The targeted audience that would benefit from this program are couples who has failed financially in their relationship. According to Family Life, “An expert on money matters, Larry Burkett once said on our FamilyLife Today®radio broadcast, "Of the couples who end up getting a divorce, every survey shows between 85-90 percent of them say that the number one problem they were having was finances." We live in a culture that encourages couples to buy, buy, and buy— whether they have the money or not. How you handle your finances is one of the greatest tests of your character—and of your marriage relationship. If you and your spouse are having trouble with your finances, you need to set a goal of working through this together and developing a biblical financial plan that will put you on solid ground.” (http://www.familylife.com/)

Activist that this program will do is reanalyzing both parties bank statement to see was all money spent where it should have been spent. By doing so both parties will be able to see where unnecessary money was spent.

Goals for “Let’s talk about how we got to this point of debt”:

  • To redirect couple on the right financial path
  • Rebuild financial trust
  • To help the understand the importance of communication

I created this program because a lot of times couples give up on their relation once they reached a financial failure. I feel this program will help rebuild this relationship and let them know they can recover after a financial down fall.
