Factors that determine Unexplained Variation
Admissions offices of colleges and universities are interested in any information that can
help them determine which students will be successful at their institution.
For example, could students' high school grade point averages (GPA) be useful in predicting their first-year college GPAs? Data on high school GPA and first-year college GPA from a random sample of 32 college students attending a state university.
The results of the regression analysis are shown below.
- Discuss conclusions that can be made using a significance level of 0.05.
- Discuss factors that may determine the unexplained variation in the first year college GPAs.
