Week 3 Individual Aligning Personal and Professional Values | You have been offered a great job opportunity. Before you accept the offer, however, you want to be sure the company will be a good fit for you. To help you make this decision, you will need to determine your own personal values and those of the organization you select to see how your values and the values of the organization do or do not align.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you identify your decision to either take the job or decline it. Be sure to include the following information to support your decision:
· Complete the “What Do I Value?” Self-Assessment located on the student website to identify your personal values. To access this self-assessment: o Select the Assessments tab o Select What about Me o Select Values and Attitude Insights o Select What Do I Value?
· Generate a list of your personal values.
· Research your company’s values or a company with which you are familiar. Look at the following when researching and generate a list of your findings:
o The code of ethics of the profession o The code of ethics for the organization o The societal values for the profession
· Align your personal values with those of the organization you selected. To do this, be sure you identify the following:
o Areas where your personal values align o Areas where your personal values do not align
· Determine appropriate actions for the misalignments you have identified. Some questions you may want to consider include the following:
o Will you need to adjust your personal values to align with those of the organization? o Are you willing to work to change the organizational values once working at the company? o Are you willing to live with the misalignments you have identified?

Week 5 Learning Team Ethical Decision Making*

Read the Merck and River Blindness case.
Review the eight step decision-making process found in Ch. 2 of Managing Business Ethics.
Complete the first seven steps outlined in the Eight Steps to Sound Ethical Decision Making in Business model with your team.
Select one of the ethical perspectives you have read about. You may want to use your University of Phoenix Material: Ethical Perspectives Matrix as a resource.
Coordinate with your team to be sure each member is arguing a different perspective.
Debate the case study in the Learning Team forum. Argue from the perspective you have selected with your team. Be sure to use the information outlined from the first seven steps you created with your team and from the case study.
Complete step eight of the Eight Steps to Sound Ethical Decision Making in Business model on your own. Include the following:
· The ethical perspective with which you most align · The supporting information that brought you to your decision
Compile a 1,050- to 1,500-word paper as a team that includes the following:
· Your team’s completed outline of the first seven steps of the Eight Steps to Sound Ethical Decision Making in Business · A summary of your team debate that includes the main arguments from each ethical perspective · Each team member’s report on step eight of the Sound Ethical Decision Making in Business model

Most individuals consider themselves to be moral. But what does this mean? What are some standards you follow and how did you develop them?
Week 1 DQ 2
How do you define values? What are some of your values? What process have you gone through to develop your values?
Week 2 DQ 1
Although organizations generally have a set of explicitly stated values, there are also underlying values embedded in an organization’s culture. Describe a situation in which your personal values were misaligned with one or more of the cultural values of an organization. What strategies did you use to address the misalignment? Would you do anything differently if you could go back?
Week 2 DQ 2
Locate an article about a past or present corporate scandal. What ethical issues are presented in the article? What role did the organizational values or the values of upper management contribute to the ethical issues? If you were an employee of that organization, how would you have dealt with the issues raised in the article?
Week 3 DQ 1
Consider the culture of your organization or an organization with which you are familiar. What is a potentially controversial aspect of the organizational culture that could be defended by one of the ethical theories?
Week 3 DQ 2
Philosophers and moralists contend that morality can best be understood through customary or traditional morality and reflective morality. What do these approaches to morality entail? Provide examples.
Week 4 DQ 1
Identify your own personal rules for the way that you live your life. How do you use these in dealing with ethical dilemmas? Cite specific examples.

What makes an action morally right or wrong? How should you determine what is the right thing to do in a given ethical dilemma? Provide specific examples.
Week 5 DQ 1
Your company has decided to go global. In doing so, management has announced that it will outsource to China, the manufacturer of some parts currently being made in your department. Consequently, employee layoffs within the next 2 months will ensue. What are some ethical issues that emanate from this outsourcing decision? As a supervisor, you know that one of the employees who will lose his job confided to you that his wife is pregnant and will not know what to do to support his family. You could decide to keep this employee, but he is not one of your top performers and a more effective employee would have to be laid off in his place. What would you do in this case? Why?
