Essay Question
In 1763, England stood as the most powerful European empire in North America.
Just 20 years later, in 1783, they had lost the heart of their empire and a new nation,
the United States, had emerged. In an essay, discuss how England lost its hold over the colonies and
how the new United States was able to emerge. You will want to discuss the decisions England
made in the aftermath of the French and Indian War (esp. as it relates to colonial understandings of "God, Gold,
and Glory"), as well as sketch the course of the war itself.
Why wasn't England able to crush these colonial rebels who are
now more often than not better known as Founding Fathers?
