The role of government in food safety and quality

Nowadays, there are a lot of people who prefer to eat in restaurant. However, these restaurant offer many meals that costomers don't know what it contain or where it is come from. Also, the big markets like vons and Walmart sell a lot of products that have high demand like meat and vegetables. Have we wondered if these food can be harmful or not. GMOS food have the big part of the issue. The companies  market the GMOS with complete freedom and there is no caring of people. Therefore, when it comes to sell this kind of food, the government should involve and create a new policy or make a decision to stop these food. Eventough the government made a food safety system, it still not enough to protect people from GMOS damages. I don't see any diffculties if the government has it own market that can be anywhere in the country and sell good products with high quality and appreciate prices
