Prompt
We have discussed many aspects of the texts we have read, identified different arguments, and discussed how analyzing elements of fiction (tone, style, symbols, setting, character, point of view, etc.) through close reading can support our arguments. Use what we have learned in class to respond to the below prompt:
In a paper, argue for your interpretation of any short story assigned by analyzing elements of fiction. Choose an element(s) of fiction we have discussed (theme, symbolism, point of view, character, or setting) and write an essay that explains how your analysis of the specific element(s) supports your interpretation of the text. For example, you may want to discuss how character and setting support your interpretation of “Young Goodman Brown,” or how the symbolism in “The Lottery” supports an overall theme.
