Essay

In this paper you will present a problem that affects you to some degree. It can be a problem you face at University, in City, or a world problem that affects you on some level. You will not only present the problem but a practical and creative solution to that problem. Your paper will be judged on the creativity as well as the practicality of your solution.

You may present a satiric solution as Jonathan Swift did in “A Modest Proposal.” You may also present a realistic solution, such as the solution Brent Staples devised at the end of “Black Men and Public Space.”

The paper should run 4-5 pages (1000-1200 words). Approximately 1/3 of the essay should lay out the problem. The other 2/3 of the essay should lay out your solution to that problem.

Be aware that your solution may cause new problems. Address these new problems and negate them as a deterrent to your solution.
