ERD and DFD
ERD
A taxation office has several departments such as tax for individuals, tax for businesses etc. Each department is uniquely identified by a department id. Other attributes of a department are department name and manager. Each department serves a number of customers. Each customer is described by his/her customer id, name, and address. Each customer is served by one (and only one) department. Furthermore, each department may have any number of staff members working in it. A staff member is described by his/her staff id, name, and availability. A staff member must be assigned to one and only one department. At the end of each financial year, the taxation office issues a statement for each customer that reflects the statement number, his/her income, and payable tax. Each customer may have several statements in the database of the taxation office, but each statement belongs to only one customer.
DFD
You are responsible for analyzing the process of staff promotions at your company. You start your job by modeling the current situation with this process through drawing a DFD.
The process here is that the staff member submits his/her application for promotion through an online system. The application gets stored automatically in a database called Application Bank. Each application is assessed by an assessor upon reception. The assessor retrieves the submitted applications from the Application Bank and evaluates each application. His/her comments on each application get stored in the Application Bank. Once a minimum of 10 applications are received, members of the promotion committee meet to evaluate promotion applications. The committee accesses each online application and the assessor’s comments through the Application Bank. They then evaluate each application and submit their recommendations on each application to a database called Committee Recommendation Bank. Then, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) makes final decision on each application by reviewing the submitted application, assessor’s comments and committee’s recommendations. The decision is then stored in a folder called Promotion Outcome. The decision is finally emailed by the CEO to the applicant.
